About Us

Lily + Lark was founded in 2019 by Miriam Atwood. It began on Etsy, but has now expanded to its own online site, headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Lily + Lark offers handmade, fair-trade African Wall Baskets mostly sourced from Rwanda. We will be adding more home and lifestyle products from talented artisans in the next few months.

Our baskets are made with coiled sisal fibers that are wrapped in organically dyed sweetgrass fibers. All fibers are naturally sourced in Rwanda. Rwanda is located in East/Central Africa and is known as "the land of a thousand hills." It has beautiful landscapes, from rivers to lakes to volcanoes and dense tropical forests. Baskets carry a special symbolism in Rwanda: friends give them to one another to celebrate life milestones and they are proudly displayed as a reflection of abundance in friendship, family and life. All baskets are fair trade and each purchase empowers the women weavers in Rwanda giving them independence and a stable, improved standard of living. Many women can now support their families and provide education to their children through their craft of weaving.
